An exceptionally graceful Mahonia with narrow, bamboo-like evergreen foliage that gives the shrub a soft, feathery texture. Unlike most Mahonias, the slender leaves are completely spineless, making it especially appealing near pathways and patios. Fragrant, bright yellow flower spikes rise above the foliage in fall to early winter, followed by decorative blue-black berries.
 
Winner of the 2013 RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year, ‘Soft Caress’ brings an almost fern-like appearance to shaded gardens while maintaining the durability of a woody evergreen shrub. Its compact habit makes it excellent beneath trees, in woodland borders, Asian-inspired gardens, and containers. A sheltered location with protection from harsh winter exposure is ideal in the Pacific Northwest.
