Japanese Painted Fern is an Oriental beauty with 12–18″ fronds that blend gray green and wine red. This most colorful of Ferns shows its markings best in partial shade and evenly moist soil. Bluish-gray foliage with hints of burgundy or maroon. Prefers moist well-drained soil. Plants that receive too much sun or not enough moisture will suffer leaf scorch. Chosen plant of the year by the Perennial Plant Association in 2004.
