Wood Spurge (Robb's Spurge)
Euphorbia robbiae
A vigorous and reliable groundcover, Wood Spurge, also known as Robb's Spurge, is valued for its glossy, dark green evergreen foliage arranged in neat whorls along upright stems. In spring, clusters of bright chartreuse flower bracts appear, creating a fresh and luminous display that stands out in shaded areas. Its bold texture and consistent structure make it an excellent backbone plant for low-light spaces.
This variety thrives in well-drained soil and is especially well suited to dry shade once established, where it can spread to form a dense, weed-suppressing colony. It performs well under trees and in difficult sites where many other plants struggle. Low maintenance and durable, it benefits from occasional thinning if it spreads beyond its intended space. Named for Mary Ann Robb, who famously brought seeds back from Istanbul in her hatbox in 1891.
