Freckle Face Blackberry Lily

A delightful and easy-to-grow perennial, Freckle Face produces exotic-looking orange flowers heavily spotted with deep crimson-red, giving each bloom the appearance of being artistically freckled. The lily-like flowers open in succession over many weeks above attractive fans of upright, sword-shaped foliage, creating a long-lasting display of color and texture. In fall, the distinctive seed pods split open to reveal clusters of glossy black seeds that resemble blackberries, adding another season of ornamental interest.
 
Although once classified as Belamcanda chinensis, this species is now botanically recognized as Iris domestica. Freckle Face thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, where it is heat and drought tolerant once established. Its unique flowers, decorative seed pods, and low-maintenance nature make it an excellent choice for cottage gardens, pollinator borders, and cutting gardens.
