A compact and floriferous astilbe, Smile at Me produces abundant deep pink flower plumes held on attractive red stems above glossy, dark green foliage. The dense, feathery blooms create a vibrant midsummer display while the naturally rounded habit makes it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and smaller shade gardens. Its colorful stems and compact form provide season-long interest even before flowering.  
 
This modern Dutch introduction, bred by Tom de Bruijn in 2016, thrives in rich, moisture-retentive soil and performs best in part shade to full shade. It tolerates more sun than many astilbes if the soil remains consistently moist and is an excellent choice for woodland gardens and pond edges.
