A reliable and long-blooming winter heather, Kramer’s Rote produces abundant rosy-purple to magenta flowers from midwinter into early spring, providing valuable color during the quietest months of the garden. Its fine, needle-like evergreen foliage emerges bright green and often develops bronze tones in colder weather, adding additional seasonal interest.
 
This is a vigorous and adaptable heather that tolerates a wider range of soils than many others, provided drainage is good. It works well as a low, spreading groundcover, along borders, or in mass plantings where it can create a carpet of winter color. Light shearing after flowering helps maintain a dense, compact form and encourages fresh growth.
