A striking hybrid fern with luminous silvery-gray fronds accented by contrasting dark burgundy-purple midribs. Its upright, arching habit gives it more height and structure than typical Japanese Painted Ferns, while the pale foliage seems to glow in shaded gardens. The silver coloration is strongest in spring, gradually becoming more gray-green as summer progresses.
 
‘Ghost’ originated as a hybrid between Japanese Painted Fern and Lady Fern, combining the beautiful silver coloring of one with the taller, more upright habit of the other. It is vigorous yet well behaved, slowly forming an elegant clump and tolerating somewhat drier conditions than many Athyriums once established.
