Ghost Fern
Athyrium ‘Ghost’
4-inch pot
A refined and luminous fern, Ghost Fern is prized for its elegant, silvery fronds that seem to glow in shaded garden spaces. This hybrid between Japanese Painted Fern and Lady Fern combines the best of both, offering a more upright habit with soft gray-green foliage highlighted by a subtle metallic sheen and darker midribs. Its clean, architectural form adds contrast and brightness to woodland plantings without overwhelming neighboring plants.
In the Pacific Northwest, Ghost fern performs exceptionally well in moist, well-drained soils and thrives in part to full shade. It is a dependable choice for adding texture and light to shaded borders, underplantings, and containers. Deciduous in winter, it returns reliably each spring with fresh, striking growth and requires very little maintenance beyond consistent moisture.
