Chameleon Plant
Houttuynia cordata ‘Chameleon’4-inch pot
A bold and colorful groundcover, Chameleon plant is prized for its heart-shaped leaves splashed in vibrant shades of green, cream, yellow, and rosy red. The foliage becomes even more intensely colored in cooler weather, creating a bright tapestry that lights up moist garden areas. Small white flowers appear in summer, though the spectacular foliage is the plant’s main attraction.
This variety thrives in consistently moist soil and performs well in full sun to part shade. It spreads rapidly by underground rhizomes, making it an excellent choice for covering large areas but best planted where its vigorous growth can be contained. It is particularly effective along pond edges, rain gardens, or in containers where its colorful foliage can be appreciated without becoming invasive.
NOTE: Because of its aggressive spreading habit, Chameleon plant is best used in contained areas or where its vigorous growth can be managed. In favorable conditions, it can outcompete neighboring plants.
